Smile - Production Diary

Day One

I decided to begin filming my advert by shooting the final scenes, this is because i had limited time so i needed to use the photography studio as much as possible. For my final scene i shot students with different emotions working in an exam, this showed how different people work in the same condition. I needed to use the spotlight lamp in the studio ( combined with lighting filters ) to create a light which connotes different emotions which is why it was imperative that i shot this scene first. The scene took an entire day to shoot because it was very hard getting the correct lighting. Everyone of my cast members was available at the time of shooting so that was not an issue. I used colours such as pink, green and blue to connote different emotions. This was not part of my original script however i thought it was a good idea so i included it.

Day Two

For day two i focused on the scenes in the A level tutor room. I took various different types of shots of  a student working in different places such as studying at a table and doing work on a computer. When edited together it showed them in a stressful environment as they struggled to keep up with their work. To finish this off i did a final scene where a teacher drops extra work at them and they clearly look distressed.

Day Three

Today i finished up shooting for the most part by shooting final scenes that brings the entire advert together. I took various shots of a student walking up the stairs. This did not take very long but it was hard to find a time slot when people where all free. Then i took a shot of the student dropping their work because they had too much to carry. These were all of the scenes that i needed but i wanted to retake some scenes.

Day Four

After reviewing some of the footage i discovered an error where the camera glitches, this meant that i had to go back and re-shoot a scene in the photography studio. Since i had extra time i captured more footage of the student working and gathered an establishing shot of the building from the outside.
